You might get a server timeout message when you send/receive emails using email client softwares such as Outlook or Outlook Express. The error message will be usually like this:

The operation timed out waiting for a response from the receiving (POP/SMTP) server 0x8004210a
A time-out occurred while communicating with the server 0x800ccc19'

This usually happens if you have a slow connection (eg: dial up connection) and you are trying to download a message with an large attachment file. The server time out in most of the email client is set to 1 minute by default and this can be increased.
