iPhone – How To Turn Off

The iPhone goes to sleep by default after it's been inactive for a certain period of time. But even though the iPhone consumes much less battery life when it's asleep, there may be circumstances--especially when the phone's battery is particularly low--in which you want to completely turn off iPhone.

Here's how you do it:

  1. Start by holding down the HOLD button at the top right-hand corner of the iPhone for a few seconds.
  2. This will bring up a screen asking you to run the slider across the screen to turn off the iPhone.
  3. If you don't want to do this, just tap the cancel button at the bottom of the screen.
  4. If you do, though, move the slider to the right. When you do, a progress wheel will appear and in a second or two, the iPhone will turn off.
  5. To turn it back on again, just hold down the HOLD button again until the Apple icon appears on the screen.
  6. Then let the button go and then wait for the phone to start up.

This technique to turn off iPhone applies to:
